In early 2025, knowing that I had informally read aloud the complete Lord of the Rings trilogy (plus The Hobbit) as well as many other books to my now grown children, my son's wife asked if I would consider making some audiobook recordings as a Christmas present for my son - and I heartily agreed! Doing so was incredibly fun and rewarding! Beginning in January 2025, I started recording and producing a private audiobook of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring (chapters 1 - 4). Work on this 4-hour audio drama gave me the opportunity to develop my artistic and technical audiobook production skills. Reabsorbing the stories, researching and acquiring regional dialects, developing characters, producing sound effects, and the sheer joy of completing, enhancing, and bringing chapters to life made for a very positive experience. Since it is a copywritten title, I can make it available under limited and well controlled circumstances.
Subsequently, I began seriously refining my studio development, audio production, and storytelling skills. I began auditioning for various titles on the ACX/Audible platform and have released one 41-minute children's audiobook in September 2025: "The King Who Was Afraid of a Baby: Herod And The Wise Men". This title is in storytelling genre, with narration in a variety of character accents. A limited retail sample is available at Audible.com and Amazon.com, but the entire title is available free of charge upon request. Besides recording, producing, and releasing that project, I began learning networking, promotion, and marketing.
And finally, I served as production engineer for a second children's audiobook narrated by my wife, Valerie Ebeling. That title was "The Tiny Tree: A Tale of Kindness, Growth, and Friendship in the Wonder Woods".
I continue to focus time and attention on developing my narration, audio-mastering, and related audiobook skills.
